Censorship of words and ideas is the ultimate form of slavery. Regardless of whether we approve or disapprove of certain ideas, if we tolerate coercion to suppress any of them, we unwittingly endorse coercion for that purpose. However, at some point in the future, the day may come when our own beliefs fall into disfavor and, based on the principle that we now accept, we will be be forced into silence or become criminals. Lies and deception require coercion to thrive, but truth does not. All it needs is an opportunity to be heard. If we can hear all sides of any idea, eventually, we will find the truth. The quickest way to separate liars from truthers is to see which ones advocate coercion to silence their opponents.
